This thesis is a part of comprehensive survey of discourses of J. A. Comenius in prewar Japan. When national education system, one of the main agents of the formation of nation state was established in mid-19th-century Japan, Czech thinker in the 17th century, Comenius was introduced as a precursor of modern education. More detailed examination on the process is expected for the deeper understanding of the acceptance of Western education in Japan. Through examining the books and magazines mainly concerning education published up to 1945, the author discovered more than 30 articles about Comenius, which have not been mentioned in the previous survey. In this series of theses, the author lists them up and reconsider the process in which the interpretation of Comenius changed and diversified. After demonstrating the Summary of the Research on Comenius and Rousseau conducted by Jungo Kondo, this thesis pays special attention to the book entitled Comenius authored by Hideichi Sasaki (1874-1945), which was originally written concerning Comenius by the Japanese for the first time in 1939. |
