This paper considers the metaphysical writings of the 17th-century Czech thinker Johannes Amos Comenius, and following the paper appeared in the Studies in the Humanities and Sciences, Vol. LXIII, No. 2 (Hiroshima Shudo University, February, 2023), presents a tentative translation up to the seventh section of the third part of Prima philosophia. Whilst Comenius has been exclusively seen as an educational reformer, his educatinal idea was one of the products through his philosophical inquiries. This shows that the retroactive consideration to his philosophy is essential to understand his ideas of education as a whole. Prima philosophia, which was drafted in the early 1630s and was not known for three centuries, is short, but significant to grasp the process of his metaphysical thinking toward the formation of Pansophia in his later years. |
