This paper considers the writing process and bibliography of Prima philosophia by the 17th-century Czech thinker Johannes Amos Comenius, and presents a tentative translation of the introduction and the first two parts. Whilst Comenius has been exclusively seen as an educational reformer, his educational idea was one of the products through his philosophical inquiries. This shows that the retroactive consideration to his philosophy is essential to understand his ideas of education as a whole. Prima philosophia, which was drafted in the early 1630s and was not known for three centuries, is short, but significant to grasp the process of his metaphysical thinking toward the formation of Pansophia in his later years. |
